Private Workshops
“I love teaching in my studio where I can tailor a workshop to the interests of my students, and provide hands-on attention. Whether it is a specific bookbinding, painting, or papermaking technique, or a day to play with a group of friends, I am able to accommodate most requests and happy to provide a gourmet meal to go along with it.”
Some of my most popular workshops include:
Handmade Books and Journals… Learn to make a variety of books suited to your own special interests or for gifts : a watercolor journal, a recipe holder, a seed keeper and garden calendar, a photo album, a guest book or anything else that puts your daily passions in a beautiful container.
Batik Painting on Paper… Batik is an ancient art, developed in Indonesia more than 2000 years ago. Using a hot wax resist and brilliant colors, learn to create multi-layered papers to use in books, for cards or artwork.
Paste Papers… The process for making paste papers is like finger-painting and just as much fun, but the results yield beautiful decorative papers that can be used for book making, cards, and artwork.
Making your own Bookcloth… Take any piece of fabric you love, or an heirloom handkerchief, or a quilt square, and turn it into a cover for a special book.
Cast Paper Vessels… Sculpting with bits of lovely papers over a form of your choice, learn to make bowls, tea candle holders and other 3-D shapes.
